Taking Strength from Weakness

“So I take pleasure in weaknesses, injuries, needs, persecutions, anguishes for Christ's sake. Because when I'm weak, I'm in fact strong." (2 Corinthians 12:10)

We often feel weak. There are times when the strength really seems to have run out, when fight after fight we feel tired and dejected. Adversity of circumstances overwhelms us, and we are tempted to give up. But instead of getting discouraged, it's in these moments that we can get up and beat the Enemy; for in our weaknesses the strength of God is greater in our lives. We must not think that we are strong when everything is going well, when things are going smoothly. God uses difficulties to strengthen us; it's like a soldier, if he doesn't have a hard training, he won't be prepared for war, and his training must continue so that he doesn't lose his strength. We don't need to accept the lies of the Prince of Darkness, he wants to make us believe that we are defeated, that everything is lost, that our strength has run out and that's why our end has come. But we can rest in the Lord Jesus and hear his comforting words: "My grace is sufficient for thee, for my power is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9). The Lord's grace is enough for us, just as an ocean is enough for a fish. It covers everything we need and supplies all our needs. So we must not look to our own strength, but to the strength of the One who has All Power in heaven and on earth. He will support us with his strong arm in any situation. Even though we walk in a dry and scorching wilderness, He will sustain and strengthen us; and if necessary, he will make water flow from the rock and rain bread from heaven!

Our source of strength comes from God, and God dwells within us: “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word; and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him." (John 14:23). We must not look at what is going on around us, because then we will lose faith. But we must look to Jesus, who dwells in us - those who believe in Him - and our faith will be strengthened.

God also works in this way so that we learn to trust Him, not ourselves; for we are totally dependent on Him, like earthen vessels, fragile, but protected by Himself: “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of power may be from God, and not from us .” (2 Corinthians 4:7). What matters is that our hearts are fully surrendered to the Lord.

Therefore, we can always be of good cheer and content in all circumstances, whether we are weak or strong, because the Lord is the strength of our lives! And we can do all things in the One who strengthens us!

“...I will gladly glory in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)"
