At the beginning of Genesis, in the first verse, there is the account of creation, where the Universe and the primitive Earth were made, a great rocky sphere transmuted from water vapor, with a magmatic interior, in an era of distant time. It is at this time that the cosmic matter and energy that exists today was being created. (Genesis 1:1).
We must necessarily interpret the days narrated in this chapter as divine days, gigantic supertemporal ages, not least because the static configuration of the planet, which would define day and night, was not yet determined. And, of course, "evening and morning" could not refer to a day of 24 hours, as this statement begins in verse 5, before the creation of the Sun. Probably, "evening and morning" designates a great age of time, a day from God's perspective, perhaps hundreds of millions of years. It is also clearly expressed that the creation of the Earth was done at the same time as the creation of the Universe as we know it. Astronomy marks the Earth's age at around 4.5~4.6 billion years, the Sun between 4.6 and 10 billion years, which, considering the wide ranges of variation possibilities, could well fit into a large curtain of temporal ages elapsed in the steps described in the biblical text.
In verse 2 we see the description of the Earth as a shapeless elementary rocky sphere ready to be transformed. The absence of the Sun and Stars made the horizon and all spatial vision an abyss of endless darkness. The Spirit of God, as the force that moves the Universe, was present. Then God intervened to carry out the plan for the creation of the Earth.
The first element to be created was light. Light before the sun? Yes, but the light of the universe as a whole, as the creation on Earth was simultaneous with the entire Cosmos. Perhaps it was light coming from the reactive processes of a preformation of the Sun. This also referred to the creation of universal light, which shines on energetic force-laden space elements, such as the first stars generated by primordial gases and dust from the great initial explosion that brought out the Primitive Space Face.
Then the Earth's geophysical structure was created. In verse 6 we see the creation of an expanse, or expanse in the midst of the waters, and separation between waters and waters. We know that there is a lot of water in the atmosphere. The expansion, or firmament, is the atmosphere, the terrestrial Heaven where clouds and weather phenomena are formed. This was the separation of the waters, the vaporized waters that were suspended in the atmosphere and the liquefied waters that covered the entire planet.
In verse 9 th The appearance of the Earth begins to look better: several revolutions cause great geophysical changes, and the dry portion appears, the great continents with their accidents and mountain ranges. And the sea was bounded.
In verse 11 is the beginning of the creation of life, the herbs and fruit trees that bore seeds according to theirs species. It is a great mystery of how plants existed before the formation of the Sun. But it must be noted that no one knows the spatial, thermal, atmospheric and chemical phenomena that were on the Earth at that time of creation, where God himself was acting, sustaining and intervening to bring the planet to life . Possibly the Sun was already in the preformation phase, with all the mysterious phenomena that precede the appearance of a star.
From verse 14, we see then the order for the completion of the creation of the Sun, Moon and interplanetary bodies, which would serve for signs, and to count the times, days and years. This entire process took place in a timeline of calculation certainly still unknown, but perfectly determined and orchestrated with perfect wisdom. The gas cloud condensed and gave rise to our great star, source of light, heat and energy to give strength to the life of our planetary star. In verse 16 it is still written that God made the stars. This refers to the entire time period in which the Universe was being created together with the Earth. This is clarified in the book of Job:
"Where were you when I founded the earth? Let me know if you have intelligence. Who were you Did he measure it, if you know it? Or who stretched the string over it? Upon what its foundations are founded, or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars together joyfully sang, and all the children of God rejoiced?" (Job 38:4-7)
Or can you gather the delights of Seven-star or loosen the strings of Orion ? Or produce the constellations in due time, and guide the Bear with her children? " (Job 38:32-33)
From verse 20 we see the creation of reptiles, fish and birds. This may harmonize perfectly with the studies of science, which says that life arose in water, with fish, as well as declaring that birds and reptiles were the first creatures to appear in the chronology of terrestrial life. We cannot pragmatically determine how life arose, nor endorse the theory of evolution, which never found the link between species, for the text says that every living thing was created each according to its species. At this time, the great Jurassic reptiles identified in the fossils may also have existed and died out. But we can know that animals arose from a great miraculous process under the power of the Creator.
In chapter 24 God continues his work with the creation of mammals and other terrestrial reptiles. All under a carefully calculated and programmed order and harmony, according to the perfect knowledge of the Almighty Architect.
In verse 26, at last, we see God creating man, crowned with His image and likeness to exercise dominion over the created Earth, filled with life, order, and harmony. We know that at the beginning of time man was tempted to disobey the Creator and fell, letting death and chaos enter the world, but this is a later matter to be dealt with.
Astronomy marks the age of the Universe above 13 billion years. And this need not necessarily be disproved.
The Bible does not contradict legitimate science or geology. It must be read with free understanding, and surprisingly logical mysteries and explanations will be found.
